Rise In Online Motor Cover Providers

Vehicle insurers in UAE sign up to RTA initiative.

Most UAE motor insurers are already providing online insurance weeks after the RTA scrapped paper application forms for vehicle registration.

From March 1, the Roads and Transport Authority stopped accepting written vehicle registration forms and will now only process online applications sent via insurance companies as part of a new internet initiative.

Since the system was introduced, some 43 motor insurers, accounting for more than 95 per cent of vehicle insurance in Dubai, have established online links with the RTA’s Licensing Agency to facilitate the process.

The online system was introduced to streamline the registration process as the number of vehicles in Dubai continues to rise from nearly 997,000 in 2008 to more than one million last year.

Under the old system, motorists would first need to visit an insurance company to get cover for their vehicles. They would then have to drop into a Licensing Agency or car registration office with their insurance papers to get the vehicles registered.

Now, drivers can pay an insurance fee online, with the insurer passing on the paperwork to the RTA registration offices.
