Stage Set For Insurance Industry Conference

Bermuda will play host to next month’s World Insurance Forum.
Leading figures from the global insurance industry are set to converge in Bermuda next month to discuss the sector’s future and development.
From March 14-16, The World Insurance Forum will focus on various topics, including the potential increase in overlap between insurance and capital markets, the impact of government involvement on risk assumption and China’s emergence as a dominant player.
Other subjects up for debate include how new US and EU regulation may affect the industry, and the challenges CEOs face when operating against multiple frameworks.
A panel discussion featuring prominent industry figures, such as Stefan Lippe, CEO of Swiss Re, Lloyd’s chairman Lord Peter Levine, Marsh CEO Brian Duperreault, and Ted Kelly, chief executive of Liberty Mutual, is scheduled for March 15.
“In sound financial health, the insurance and reinsurance industry is well-positioned to respond to the needs of our clients in the years to come. However, we can expect to face a number of challenges alongside the opportunities, and our panel will be focused on a frank discussion of what these might be,” said RenaissanceRe chief executive Neill Currie, who will moderate the panel discussion.
An afternoon session on March 15, again featuring well known faces from the industry, will cover managing risk and emerging regulatory standards.
Catlin Group CEO Stephen Catlin said the afternoon session would make delegates think about how they manage their respective businesses.
“The insurance industry survived recent financial challenges better than most of the broader financial services markets,” he added. “This was, in large part, a consequence of a relatively superior Enterprise Risk Management function. There are lessons to be learned here and perspectives from the industry and the regulators that will be discussed in an open forum.”
Jeremy Cox, CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Dr. Monica Mächler, vice chair of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Board, Axis Capital chief executive John Charman, and John Molbeck Jr, CEO of HCC Insurance, will join Catlin for the later session.
